Micro needling: Not Just for Women, Why Men Should Try It Too

Clearing scars, shrinking pores, improving texture, yes, men need it too.

People have long associated micro needling with women’s skincare, often tucking it into a “beauty” category. But micro needling is a clinical-grade, evidence-based treatment that benefits everyone men included. At our clinic, we’re seeing more male patients realize just how effective and transformative this treatment can be for their skin.

What Exactly Does Micro needling Treat?

Micro needling (also known as collagen induction therapy) involves using fine needles to create micro-injuries on the skin. This triggers the body’s natural healing process, leading to increased collagen and elastin production.

Here’s what it can help with:

Acne Scars: Breaks up scar tissue, softens the appearance of pits and marks.

Large Pores: Tightens skin, reduces the visibility of pores over time.

Uneven Texture: Smooths rough areas and helps achieve a more refined skin surface.

Fine Lines: Especially around the eyes and forehead, microneedling can improve firmness.

Pigmentation & Sun Damage: Helps even out the skin tone and fade discoloration.

Men’s skin is typically thicker and oilier and microneedling works especially well with that, often producing visible results even faster.

The PRP Advantage: Micro needling Meets Your Own Growth Factors

You can do micro needling as a standalone procedure, but it becomes even more powerful when you combine it with PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma).

Here’s how it works:

We draw a small amount of your blood and spin it in a centrifuge to isolate the platelet-rich plasma.

We then apply that golden liquid rich in your own growth factors to the skin during or after microneedling.

The micro-channels created allow the PRP to deeply penetrate, accelerating healing, boosting collagen, and enhancing the overall result.

PRP not only helps speed up recovery, but it also improves the skin’s glow, elasticity, and regeneration perfect for men dealing with scarring, early signs of aging, or tired skin.

Let’s Talk Myths: “Isn’t Micro needling Just for Women?”

Not at all.

Here’s the truth:

Skin concerns don’t care about gender. Acne scars, rough texture, or large pores affect men just as much.

We do Micro needling in a clinical settings. It’s not about pampering it’s about results.

Many of our male patients say they wish they’d started earlier once they see the improvements.

Microneedling is one of the few treatments that is customizable, low-risk, and works for most skin types, including darker and more sensitive skin.

Final Thoughts: Men, Your Skin Deserves More

Microneedling isn’t just a “beauty” procedure. It’s a medical-grade treatment that helps men feel good in their skin especially after years of acne, sun exposure, or shaving damage.

Curious if it’s right for you? Come in for a consultation. We’ll assess your skin and recommend the best treatment plan whether it’s microneedling alone or with PRP.

What is a Vampire Facelift?

A vampire facelift, alternatively referred to as a platelet-rich plasma facelift cosmetic procedure. The procedure involves the use of the patients own blood to rejuvenate the facial skin. This method produces remarkable, virtually painless effects that will leave your skin radiant. A Vampire facelift is a non-invasive procedure that harnesses the patient’s blood to erase dark marks and acne scars. It also clears fine lines, wrinkles, and rejuvenates dull skin while improving hyperpigmentation.

How is it performed?

After drawing blood from your arm, it undergoes centrifugation. During this process, it’s spun at a specific speed and time, separating platelets from other blood components.. Platelet-rich plasma(PRP) is derived and injected into the skin of the face under topical anesthesia. After a vampire facelift, downtime is minimal. Rapid smoothing occurs, and skin texture improves in 2-3 weeks. Results improve over time, like fine wine. This non-invasive process employs advanced systems to obtain growth factors in PRP. These factors stimulate skin regeneration, restoring volume and glow to the skin and giving the skin a youthful look.

How many sessions does one need?

Younger individuals with fewer acne scars may require fewer sessions. However, for deeper acne scars, fine lines, wrinkles, or hyperpigmentation, you may need several treatments. There is no one-size-fits-all solution, but the more treatments you receive, the more obvious the cumulative results will be. Don’t worry, your medical professional will determine how many treatments you’ll need during your consultation.

How does it work?

The critical step is activating platelets to release growth factors, achieved naturally in the body. When the skin heals itself, such as from a cut, a yellow substance is formed behind the scab as part of the repair and renewal process. This substance acts as our own natural PRP, holding all of the growth factors in place before activating adjacent stem cells to mend and regenerate new skin to heal the injury. When we inject PRP into the facial skin, it follows the same process of activating collagen and skin-multiplying cells resulting in the information of new youthful-looking skin. This technique merely takes the process of aesthetic rejuvenation to the next level.

Who is a candidate for the vampire facial

The vampire facial is perfect for anyone with premature wrinkles, dull-looking skin extensive sun damage visible facial scars from acne, or anyone who wants a more youthful, even-toned complexion or a brighter, dewier, suppler, and more rejuvenated look.

What is a hypertrophic scar?

Hypertrophic scars and keloids are types of raised, thickened scars that can form after injuries or surgery. A thick elevated scar is known as a hypertrophic scar. Extra connective tissue develops within the initial wound region, which is an aberrant reaction to wound healing. As a result, there is a raised scar. A minor wound to the topmost layer(epidermis) of the skin usually heals quickly. As the wound heals, new skin emerges. Your body responds to deeper wounds in the dermis layer and lower by producing collagen to help heal the wound. Your skin’s collagen is thicker than the rest of the skin. A scar is formed when the tissue becomes thicker and less flexible. The majority of scars are flat. However, your body can produce too much collagen, resulting in a raised scar. This form of elevated scar is referred to as hypertrophic scar.

How can I tell if my scar is hypertrophic?

Scars that are hypertrophic are more common in parts of the body where the skin is stretched, such as the back, chest, shoulders, upper arms, elbows, and other joints. Hypertrophic scars, on the other hand, might appear anyplace on your skin if you’ve had a cutaneous injury or wound. Scar tissue can form as a result of skin injury or wounds caused by trauma, inflammation, burns, or surgical incisions. One to two months after the injury, you may notice hard or thickened elevated skin over your wound site. Irritation, itching, soreness, and/or pain may occur as a result of the scar. Scars typically form on your back, chest, shoulders, upper arms, and the skin around your joints.

What is a keloid?

A keloid is a scar that is thick and raised. It can appear anywhere there is a skin injury, although it is most common on the earlobes, shoulders, cheeks, and chest. Any type of skin damage, such as acne, an injection, bites, burns, hair removal, body piercings, and even minor scrapes and bumps can cause keloid formation. Keloids can also appear for no apparent reason.

What are the signs of a keloid?

Keloid scars are thick and uneven, usually on the earlobes or shoulders, cheekbones, or middle chest. Shiny, hairless, raised skin that varies in size depending on the extent of the initial lesion and when the keloid stops growing. Itching and discomfort due to a variety of textures ranging from soft to stiff and rubbery.

How can I tell the difference between a hypertrophic scar and a keloid?

The degree to which the scar spreads over the initial lesion is the most noticeable distinction between hypertrophic and keloid scars. In hypertrophic scars, the extra connective tissue(thick skin) that grows within the original wound stays within the hypertrophic scar while the additional connective tissue that grows in keloid scars extends beyond the original incision region.

Early therapy can help in the management of a keloid or hypertrophic scar. Consult a physician as soon as you notice any of the above symptoms. It is still feasible to treat long-standing keloids and hypertrophic scars, and it only necessitates a diagnosis and the development of the optimal treatment strategy.

Ageing refers to the deterioration of the body’s physical structure and function. Cells face constant exposure to a harmful environment throughout life. Genetic and epigenetic interactions result in the accumulation of molecular abnormalities affecting adult stem cell function, influenced by hereditary, environmental, and unpredictable factors. Ageing is influenced by both genetic and environmental factors, with genetics playing a significant role in the process. Ageing affects physiological function, characterized by damage accumulation in molecules, cells, and tissues over time. This reduces an individual’s ability to maintain homeostasis during stress and increases the risk of various diseases.

One of the most noticeable signs of ageing is changes in the skin. We have long recognized skin as a protective barrier against external agents, whether physical, chemical, or microbiological. It also plays a vital role in regulating temperature, electrolytes, and fluids. Skin serves as a sensory organ and a biofactory responsible for producing, processing, and metabolizing various structural elements and hormones. As the skin ages, it experiences a decline in structural and morphological properties, leading to a reduction in all of its functions. Factors such as hydration, elasticity, and antioxidant properties contribute to the skin’s ageing process, which is influenced by both genetic and environmental factors. As we age, the effects of ageing become increasingly evident, with skin ageing garnering particular interest due to its visibility and role as a window into our age.

How do genetics influence our skin ageing process?

Certain skin changes naturally occur with time, but genetics also play a role in intrinsic ageing. Our genetic makeup influences various factors, including the likelihood of discolorations, stretch marks, varicose veins, and skin sagging, among others. When skin cells divide, telomeres—protective projections at the ends of chromosomes that affect cell ageing—become shorter and weaker. Skin ageing is associated with this DNA wear and tear. Shorter telomeres or their accelerated shortening over time make signs of ageing on the skin more visible. Genetics determine the length of your telomeres and the rate at which they shorten.

Have you ever met someone whose complexion appears to be much younger than their actual age? or that one individual who doesn’t know how much a facial moisturizer costs but has skin as supple and radiant as a child? When it comes to skin and ageing, just as some people are more prone to producing keloids, other people may have genetic modulations that predispose them to faster skin ageing or even stretch marks. This is mostly due to genetic modulations, which can differ substantially from person to person. Other factors that influence the skin ageing process Extrinsic factors such as sun exposure, smoking, lifestyle, nutrition, and stress among others may affect the skin ageing process in various ways such as accelerating the rate of ageing or causing premature skin ageing. Extrinsic skin ageing may manifest itself in the form of coarse wrinkles, sun damage, and pigment abnormalities. The rate of skin ageing varies dramatically between people. And depends on the individuals’ exposure pattern to various environmental elements as well as their genetic makeup. Some people may be more vulnerable to the effects of environmental exposure on their skin than others

Hair loss can be depressing and have a negative impact on a patient’s quality of life. Regardless of the cause, hair loss is referred to as alopecia. It does not only affect the scalp; it can affect any part of the body. Every person is born with approximately 100,000 hair follicles on the scalp on average and around 5 million on the entire body. Alopecia, or hair loss, is defined as a decrease in this number for whatever reason.
Heredity, hormonal fluctuations, medical disorders, autoimmune responses, trauma, and hair grooming habits among others can all cause hair loss. Hair loss is something that can happen to anyone and can manifest itself in a variety of ways, depending on the cause. It might occur abruptly or gradually, and it can affect only your scalp or other regions of your body. There are majorly two types of hair loss namely scarring and non-scarring alopecia.

What is scarring alopecia?

Scarring, also known as cicatricial alopecia is an inflammatory scalp disorder that causes scarring and permanent hair loss by destroying hair follicles. Inflammation affects the hair follicle by impinging on the hair follicle stem cells, resulting in cicatricial alopecia. Trauma and stress can further exacerbate the scarring alopecia. It usually may start as little patches of hair loss that can spread over time. Cicatricial alopecia affects both men and women. Different people’s cicatricial alopecia progresses in different ways.

Inflammation is believed to damage hair follicle stem cells and oil glands, causing scarring and hair loss. Stem cells and sebaceous glands are located at the top of the follicle, where inflammation occurs. If they are destroyed, the follicle can’t regenerate, leading to permanent hair loss. Cicatricial alopecia is not spreadable. Hair loss can occur gradually, without causing apparent signs, and go undiscovered for a long period.
In some cases, hair loss is accompanied by intense itching, burning, and discomfort, and it progresses quickly. Diagnosing cicatricial alopecia requires a clinical examination and obtaining a scalp sample for histological analysis. The biopsy can reveal the kind, location, and degree of the inflammation. Treatment options include systemic, topical, and injectable anti-inflammatory medicines, depending on the situation.

What is non-scarring alopecia?

Nonscarring alopecia, also known as non-cicatricial alopecia, is hair loss that occurs without any scarring. The capillary cycle disrupts, but the hair follicles remain intact. It is feasible to distinguish various disorders in this group based on hair distribution in specific locations of the scalp.
Hair loss can be either diffusing or show a distinct pattern; while in other cases can lead to total baldness. It causes minimal skin irritation but may result in considerable hair loss. Age, hereditary factors, some drugs, additional medical disorders, stress, and other variables can all contribute to this condition. Non-scarring alopecia can affect men, women, and children.

How can I differentiate scarring and non-scarring alopecia?

Your hair is like the body’s barometer reflecting back exactly the condition that the body is in. You should take any changes on the hair and scalp with utmost keenness. From itching, sensitivity, loss of hair in patches to painful scalp or hair shedding- visit your scalp specialist to determine the cause and receive early intervention.
When it comes to hair loss a stitch in time saves nine. We cannot underestimate the importance of a scalp and hair consultation. Your hair and scalp specialist will deduce what is going on by obtaining a medical history, as your current health condition might provide detailed information about your hair and scalp health. After establishing a diagnosis through the consultation process, the specialist knows how to best treat the scalp or hair condition.

In some cases, a hair and scalp specialist will recommend appropriate tests to confirm or rule out any possible diagnoses. An expert understands that accurate diagnosis requires careful history taking,
suitable investigations, and a thorough physical examination. When it comes to treatment, there is no
one size fits all remedy for either scarring or non-scarring alopecia. We address every case uniquely and from an individual point of view.

One remarkable advancement in medicine, has made it possible to restore hair loss and achieve natural-looking outcomes with hair transplants. This procedure can help many people regain a complete or fuller head of hair. Hair transplant surgery involves relocating existing hair to fill in areas with thin or no hair. How is a hair transplant performed? Grafts containing hair follicles are extracted from healthy hair areas like the scalp, chest, or beard, known as the donor site. If the grafts are taken from your scalp, they are normally taken from the back and sides of your head, just below the occipital bone an area referred to as the safe zone. The harvested grafts are then replanted on areas of the scalp that are bald or thinning. This procedure is performed under local anesthesia and the client is fully awake throughout the procedure.

How it begins

The procedure begins with mapping or demarcating the recipient area. Hair on the donor area is trimmed short just before surgery so that the grafts may be readily accessed and removed. The donor area is numbed and the healthy grafts are harvested. The recipient area, which is where the grafts will be implanted, is anesthetized after the grafts are harvested, and tiny channels are constructed where the grafts will be placed. A hair transplant might take anywhere from four to eight hours.

What is the recovery?

Hair transplants are outpatient procedures, which means you can return home the same day. The recovery process can vary from person to person. However, after 7 days, one is fully recovered and can resume normal daily activities.

Who can do a hair transplant?

Hair loss can be attributed to various factors such as genetic susceptibilities (Androgenetic alopecia), scalp injuries, past cranial surgeries, trauma (like traction alopecia), and more. Additionally, burns, scalds, and certain incidents may lead to permanent hair loss that can be restored through a hair transplant. Transplantation can also benefit scalps affected by inflammatory or autoimmune-related disorders, provided these conditions have been appropriately treated. A consultation is crucial to assess hair transplant candidacy, considering factors like donor area availability, the extent of hair loss, and scalp health before proceeding with the procedure.

When do I see results?

The growth of transplanted hair may differ from person to person. However, at 6 months, the majority of patients have achieved 50% growth, and full growth is expected within 9-12 months. It’s important to understand that the transplanted hair may fall out between two and eight weeks after surgery. This is very normal. The hair transplanted transitions to the shedding phase, which causes the fallout. The good news is that the follicles remain intact and begin producing hair shortly after this time.

These factors stimulate fibroblast activation, collagen formation, and more, ultimately promoting hair follicle cell proliferation and growth.

In the hair growth cycle, PRP has been found to induce and prolong the anagen phase. Platelets also include thick granules containing bioactive substances that help to modulate inflammation in the area administered
